Clothes, Armour and Shield Image

Flapping clothes in modern Palekh art (from the P.D.Bazhenov's album).

Bazhenov in his album gathered different details from ancient icons and Palekh modern master's works. They quite different but all of them keep tradition points of Russian ancient painting. Modern Palekh art added thin graphic painting, clear folds inside and outside the clothes.

Armour, shields and swords of the warrior were painted in details and they were decorated by gold, sometimes by precious stones and pearl.

In the image there were used methods of Stroganov's school, of Yaroslavl and Rostov icons and frescos.

In the centre of the shield you can see the Sun blinding the enemy.

Shield is decorated by geometrical figures. In the centre of it you can see a head of the furious animal.

Ornament was usually done by gold and dark paint while the pearl was painted by white.

Butorin created a new type of shield. It has a form of ellipsis. Technic and details are borrowed from the traditions of the 17th century.

Golikov created a lot of different types of shields. In his works he followed the ancient traditions but he didn't copy the models. He didn't do it exactly historically but he tried to paint it original and he didn't repeat the details.
